"Dongsaeng." Suzy called to Kristine, as she entered
the music room, where Krisitne was playing the violin.
"Neh?" She said, stopping her practice. "I saw a flying
saucer outside of school!" Suzy said excitedly.
Suzy sighed. "Unnie, it was probably just a plane
or satelitte." Kristine told her. Suzy pouted in
disappointment. "Aww. But can you come look with me
dongsaeng? Please? Please? PLeeeasseee?" Suzy begged her.
"Arraseo." Kristine said, and placed her violin
and bow down on her seat gently. Then went with her
outside, as they looked up at the darkening sky.
Kristine saw something flashing, and it was clearly
a satellite. "It's a satellite unnie." She told
Suzy. "Aww okay. I guess I'm gonna go now."
Suzy told her. "Okay, I'll be here for a little bit
longer, I have to practice." Kristine told her.
"Okay dongsaeng. Be careful. goodnight." Suzy said.
Kristine nodded and they said goodbye and Suzy
walked home, since she lived nearby. Kristine went
back inside the empty school and sat at her seat again,
and practiced her piece one last time. Then put her violin
in it's case, and closed the lights, leaving the classroom,
and walking down the hallway to go to her car. She heard
a noise, but shrugged it off, when someone appeared around
the corner, and she let out s shriek. And then she
was relieved when she recognized who it was.
"Jaejoong oppa, you scared me. What are you still doing
here?" She asked him. "I had to finish up a project
in the computer lab. How about you?" He asked her.
"Just getting in some more practice on my violin."
She said, holding up her violin case. He nodded.
"You overwork yourself too much dongseng." He said.
"I'm fine oppa. Really." She said. "Okay. You going
home?" He asked her. "Yeah." She answered, and they
both walked to the parking lot together. And got into
their cars, waving goodbye and driving home.
The following morning, Kristine was walking down
the hallways, with some of her friends, Alyce,
Suzy, G-yan and Gretchen, when she saw GD walking
by the opposite way. He smiled at something one of his
friends had said, and as he walked by, Kristine was
completely dazed in his smile, and ending up hitting
her face in an open locker. A lot of people saw this,
and started snickering, but her friends were concerned.
GD and his friends glanced over, and they started
laughing and walked off. Kristine turned pink from
embarrassment. "OMO. Dongsaeng gwenchana?" Gretchen asked
her worriedly. The other girls asked the same thing.
"Neh." She said, rubbing her nose. They continued to
walk down the hallway and talk. "Wanna go with us to
Yogurtland later?" G-yan asked her. "I can't. I have
an orthodontist appointment after school. I'm getting
my braces off finally." Kristine explained. "Oh. That's
good news to hear." Suzy said. Kristine nodded.
"Hey dongseng, can I stop by at your house after your
appointment?" Alyce asked her. "Why?" Kristine asked.
"You'll see." Alyce said with a smile. Kristine shrugged.
"OKay Unni." She said. And they continued to walk down
the hallway around the corner.
Meanwhile, Jaejoong had seen the whole thing
as he was coming around the other corner. He felt down,
seeing how Kristine was completely charmed by GD.
He shrugged it off, and Changmin clapped him on the shoulder.
"It's cool hyung. She'll see GD's not all he's
cracked up to be." Changmin said to him encouragingly.
"What? I don't care." Jaejoong said gruffly. And walked
off to his next class. Changmin shrugged and walked to his
next class around the corner as well.
After Kristine had her braces removed, she went
home and expected Alyce to stop by. But she received
a text on her cellphone. She slid it open. It was from
Alyce. "Hey dongseng, I can't make it today. But wake up
early tomorrow okay? I'll be there at 6."-Alyce.
Kristine was confused, but shrugged. "Why did she have to
wake up early?" She wondered. She shrugged and did her
homework. Then she ate dinner with her family. And
then took a shower, then slipped into her pajamas and
drifted off to sleep. The following morning, she was woken
up by the sun shining on her face, as someone opened her
curtains in her room. "Ah. Wha?" She said, sleepily.
"Get up dongsaeng!" Alyce said to her. "What? Unni?
What are you doing here so early?" Kristine asked her.
Sitting up in her bed, and rubbing her eyes. "You didn't
get my text?" Alyce asked her as she opened Kristine's
closet and started pulling out different clothes and
placing it on Kristine's bed. And she had also brought
along, a curling iron, a flat iron, a blow dryer,
and makeup. "Yah unni what are you doing?" Kristine
said awake now. "Go eat breakfast quickly, then come
back up here." Alyce told her. "But Unni."
Kristine protested. "Please?" Alyce asked her. Kristine
sighed and went downstairs. And ate breakfast quickly,
then trudged up the stairs again. She brushed her teeth
and washed her face, then Alyce handed her an outfit
she had matched up for her. Kristine glanced at it.
She had given her a plaid skirt, and peep toe flats
and a simple white t-shirt on top, and a black vest
over it. "Unni, why are you doing this?" Kristine
asked her. Alyce smiled. "You got your braces off.
Time for makeover. But of course you're still pretty
without it." Alyce added. Kristine sighed and
changed into the outfit in the bathroom, then came back
out. She was directed to sit down in her spinning desk
chair. Alyce started by combing out her hair. She
flat ironed Kristine's bangs, and clipped them back to one
side, then started curling the ends of her hair slightly,
and then sprayed hairspray, to let the style keep it's
hold. Kristine held in her breath, and then exhaled when
Alyce was done. Then Alyce gave her a natural, but
slightly smokey eye look, that brought out her brown
eyes, and just a light pink lipgloss. Then she
sprayed a spritze of Miss Dior Cherie perfume in the
air, and told Kristine to walk through it. She walked
through it. Then looked at herself in her full length
mirror. "OMO." She said, surprised at her reflection.
"Smile." Alyce said. Kristine smiled and saw her
now perfectly, straight teeth gleaming. "Wow unni."
Kristine said. "You like it?" Alyce asked her.
Kristine nodded. "Hey, can I get a ride to school?"
Alyce asked her. Kristine, laughed at her friend,
nodding. And they went to school together. She was slightly
nervous, about going in to school with her new look.
"Come on dongsaeng." Alyce said to her gently.
Kristine nodded, inhaling, then exhaling. Then
she got out of her car, locking it and Alyce
went in first, pushing the doors of their University
open. Kristine walked with her head high, as Alyce walked
beside her. People were whispering, and then they finally
recognized who she was. They were surprised. Jaejoong
and Changmin were coming around the corner, and saw Alyce
and Kristine and were surprised. "Hyung, isn't that Kristine?
Dang. She looks hot." Changmin said. "I'd prefer to say
beautiful. But she always was." Jaejoong said. Changmin
whistled low, at his friends remark. "Your really gone
for her havent' you hyung?" Changmin said. Jaejoong said
nothing. And then he watched in disappointment as he
saw GD walking down the opposite way of the hallway
that Kristine was and glancing at her, up and down, then
walking over to her. Kristine froze. Alyce quickly
scurried away. "Hey." GD said to her. "Hi."
Kristine said, softly. "Are you new here?" GD
asked her. Kristine shook her head. "Well I'm GD"
He said, shaking her hand. Kristine
nodded, and then let go of his hand. "He's finally
noticing me." She thought excitedly. "Walk you to
your class?" He offered. She nodded, and they walked down
the hallways together. Jaejoong looked on, and felt a
a pang of hurt. "Cheer up hyung. Just tell her how you
feel." Changmin said. "It's too late now. Jaejoong said
and turned around, walking down the hallway, dejected.
GD walked Kristine to her class. She
gave a little bow, thanking him and he asked her out
right before she went in. She was surprised. But smiled,
agreeing to go out with him, later that Friday night.
They exchanged numbers and she went into her class,
happily. She sat down at her desk, and saw Jaejoong
sitting at his seat, looking sad. She walked over to
him, and sat in front of him. "Hi oppa." She said
cheerfully. "Hey. You look nice." He said. She thanked
him. "You look down. What's wrong?" She asked him,
oblivious. "Nothing. Just tired." He lied. She nodded
in sympathy and went back to her seat at the front of
the classroom. Soon the bell rang, and the rest of the
class came in, and their teacher came in as well,
starting the lecture. Even though Jaejoong was still
down, he was still entranced at the way, Kristine's
long black hair shined brightly, as the sun poured into
the classroom, and reflected off her hair, almost like
a halo effect. He shook his head and focused on the
teacher's lecture.
Later on that day, during lunch. Changmin, Alyce,
Jaejoong, Suzy, G-yan, Junsu, and Gretchen
all sat at a round table, eating at one of the cafe's
on their school's campus. "Hey Kristine-ah, wanna
go with me, Alyce, G-yan and Gretchen to get
manicures later?" SUzy asked her. "Oh, sorry I'm
going out with GD-shi later." Kristine said.
At the mention of this, Jaejoong stopped eating and pulled
his chair back, it squeaked against the tile floor, and
he got up and walked out of the cafe. Kristine and the
rest of the girls were surprised at this.
"What's wrong with oppa?" Kristine asked Changmin.
Changmin didn't want to meddle and merely said. "I don't know
but I should go talk to him." Changmin said and took his
sandwhich and Jaejoong's with him, leaving the cafe,
since they had paid for their food already.
Kristine was worried but then the girls all asked her
about how it all happened. After she recounted her
story, the girls had a few comments. "But dongsaeng, wasn't
it just yesterday he laughed when you hit your face in
the locker?" G-yan asked her. Alyce nodded and added.
"Yeah, and now that Alyce gave you a makeover,
he comes waltzing in and asks you out only now?"
"And he didn't even recognize you and asked if you
were new here." Gretchen added. Kristine sighed.
"Look I know, but maybe he's different. Well, I gotta
go. See you guys tomorrow. Just call me." She said and
got up, throwing her leftovers in the trash and leaving
the cafe. Her friends all shook their head, worried for
her.
Later that night, GD picked her up in his
silver sports car. She kept her hair and makeup the same,
and wore a black shift dress and flats. He opened the door
for her, and then went back to the driver's seat. He placed
his hand on her left knee for a moment, and smiled at her.
She felt a little uncomfortable, but just smiled
at him lightly. Then he let go and put his hands
back on the steering wheel and drove off.
They ate dinner at a quaint little restaurant, and
everything seemed to be going well. Then he asked her
if she wanted to go to a party with him. She
was unsure, but he assured her they wouldn't be there
long. She agreed and they drove over to a friend's house.
When they got there, the front door was open, and music
was blasting, and people with beer where drinking out on
the front porch. Kristine was even more doubtful, but
GD smiled at her reassuringly and led her into the
house. He introduced her to a few of his friends and
then told her he wanted to show her something upstairs.
She was really against it, but he pleaded with her, and
so she followed him. They went to one of the vacant
rooms, and he closed the door behind him. She looked
around the room, a little bit of moonlight shone
into the room, leaving a shadow of the window pane
on the carpet floor. She wondered what he wanted to
show her, when he suddenly pressed his body closely
against her petite frame, and kissed her suddenly.
Kristine was taken aback and tried to push him away,
but he continued to kiss her lips and her neck, and
started to unzip the side of her dress. "N-No D-don't."
She said. "Shh. Come on." He whispered into her ear.
She finally gained some ground, and kicked hard square in
the groin area, and he crumpled down to the ground.
She opened the bedroom door quickly, and ran down the
stairs, zipping her dress back up as she went, then
ran out of the house. She wasn't really sure where she
was but just kept walking quickly, trying to keep
alert with her surroundings. She stopped for a moment
to catch her breath, and she was surprised at the
house, she had stopped at. It was Jaejoong's house. She
quickly walked up the front walkway, and rang the doorbell.
She was worried that she would wake up his family.
Jaejoong opened the door, his hair slightly messy and
he looked tired, but his eyes widened when he saw the
condition that she was in. "Kristine-ah. What happened?"
He asked her. Kristine burst into tears, and he just
held her to him, as she sobbed into his chest. She pulled
back after a little while, and he said gently. "Come in.
You'll catch a cold." He said. They went to the kitchen,
and sat down, as he made some coffee. "What happened?
Weren't you on your date with GD?" He asked her.
And handed her a mug of coffee. She thanked him,
blowing on it, then taking a small sip. Then she
started to explain. "I was, but then he started kissing
me, and I..it just didn't feel right, and so I kicked him,
and left." She explained. Jaejoong looked angered,
hearing that she was almost taken advantage of.
He got up from his seat. "I'm gonna kill him." He
said. Kristine held his arm, stopping him. "Oppa don't.
It's not worth it." She said, and he sat back down.
"He could've raped you dongsaeng. But are you okay?"
He asked her. She nodded. "Where's your mom and
dad? I thought I'd wake them." She asked. "They're
at my grandparent's house, since my haraboji's not
been well lately." He explained. "Oh." She said, feeling
sorry. "But HyoRi nuna's here, sleeping. I'm sure she
wouldn't mind if you wanted to stay." He said.
"Oh, are you sure? I don't want to wake her up." She said.
"I'm already awake." A deep, woman's voice said in the
doorway of the kitchen. A sleepy looking, attractive
woman in her mid twenties, stood there. "HyoRi unni!"
Kristine said happily, getting up from her seat, and
hugging her. "Kristine-ah, what happened to you?"
HyoRi asked her. Kristine sighed as she let go of
HyoRi. "it's a long story." Jaejoong said. HyoRi nodded.
"Come on. You can sleep in my room, like when we used
to have sleepovers." She said, with a warm smile.
Kristine smiled back. "Okay. goodnight oppa." She said
to Jaejoong. Jaejoong gave her a small smile and said
goodnight. She went up the stairs with HyoRi and went
to the bathroom, and washed off her makeup, then
she borrowed some pajamas and went to sleep
in the twin bed next to HyoRi's that served for
guests.
The following morning, Kristine woke up to the
sun, shining warmly on her face. She stretched and
yawned then slowly sat up in bed. She looked at the
time, next to HyoRi's nightstand. It was already 9 in
the morning. "OMO." She said, realizing she overslept.
"Kristine-ah." Jaejoong said, calling into the
room. "Ah, oppa wait, I don't have any makeup on!"
She said quickly, putting the pillow in front of her
face. Jaejoong went in anway. "Dongsaeng, since
when do you care if you have makeup? You're still
cute without it." He said. She put the pillow down,
looking at her friend's face. "Really?" She said.
He nodded with a warm smile, and she smiled
back. "Thanks oppa. But did HyoRi unni go out?"
She asked him. He nodded. "She went to work already."
He explained. She nodded. He sat down at the side of
the bed. She wanted to ask him something.
"Hey oppa?" She said. "Yeah?" He said, looking
at her. "How come you left all of a sudden
yesterday afternoon, when I said I was going out
with GD?" She asked him. Jaejoong sighed.
"You really want to know?" He asked her. She nodded.
"I..I was jealous. I've always liked you Kristine.
even before your whole makeover thing." He confessed.
Kristine blinked at him. "Really? You liked me
with my braces? And no makeup?" She asked him.
He nodded. "You were always beautiful to me, even
back then. but, I guess I always was just an oppa
to you." He told her. Then he looked down. Kristine
grabbed his face in her delicate hands, gently,
turning his face to look at her. She shook her head.
"Oppa. It's not like that. I was blind. You were always
there for me. I was fooled by GD, when he only
wanted one thing. He only noticed me after my
makeover. But you saw me, even before that. Will you
give me another chance?" She asked, looking at him.
He smiled and gently took her hands away from his
face, and held them in his own hands, and he leaned in
towards her face. She closed her eyes, and soon felt
his lips press against her own, softly. It wasn't
forced like GD, but gentle and sincere. She kissed
him, back and she leaned back against the pillows,
and after a few seconds, they abruptly broke apart.
She blinked up at him. "What?" She said, confused.
He took her hand and led her out of the bed, and
downstairs. "Oppa, what are you doing?" She asked
as they went to the kitchen to eat breakfast.
"Stopping it. Before you think I'm like GD."
He said. Kristine laughed and she helped him make
breakfast.
